What We Do
P.A.B.A. is an informal association with no official or registered organization. It is run by residents of Parkside Ave for the benefit of the local community.
Online
Apart from organizing the block party, we share community and neighborhood news, including updates from elected officials and the local community board (CB 9) on our mailing list and socials. find out more here.
In Person
Block Party:
We throw a block party every year in early/mid September. We try to get the word out with email, social and posters on the block. The block party is organized by an ad-hoc committee that organizes on the mailing list and also meets in person a few times over the summer. We welcome participation and are always happy to see new faces and hear new ideas.
Block Sweeps:
We try to operate occasional "Block Sweeps" where we get out together on a weekend, clean up the block and have a chat with each other.
Projects:
We have applied for grants for block beautification and improvement projects (e.g. building tree pit guards), and there are many people in the association willing to participate in such projects if you have any ideas.
Organizing and Tenants Rights
We have some subject matter experts on the mailing list in tenant rights and housing issues. If you live on the block and have a housing or landlord problem, try getting in touch with us.
